January 2006 To: Members of the Daventry Homeowners Association: The Fairfax County School Board is considering a proposal to change the school boundary for students living in Daventry from Lee High School to West Springfield High School. The Daventry Board of Directors has taken no position on this issue since it first surfaced over a year ago. The School Board proposal has been receiving considerable public attention, including newspaper articles. Residents are able to express their views through public comment at town meetings and public hearings conducted by the School Board, as well as communications with the School Board staff and elected officials by letters, email and telephone calls. The Daventry Board of Directors, in its December 2005 meeting, directed me, in coordination with the Board Secretary, to provide the School Board the results of a poll of Daventry homeowners on this matter that was conducted during November 2004 - January 2005, the results of which were disseminated via email in January 2005. For over a year, the boundary issue has been a topic of considerable interest with strongly held opinions on either side by sincere and well-intentioned homeowners. In coordination with the Board Secretary, I turned to the Association Counsel, Mr. Dan Streich, as an independently objective agent, to draft and release an appropriate communication. The letter by Mr. Streich, which was staffed during December with the members of the Daventry Board, is attached. Sincerely,
Richard V.N. Ginn
President, Daventry Board of Directors
